The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, on Thursday formally submitted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nomination and expression of interest forms to the national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), signalling the President’s intention to seek the party’s ticket for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The event, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, attracted top party stakeholders, including governors, members of the National Assembly, and the National Working Committee (NWC).
Shettima rallies support for Tinubu
Speaking after submitting the forms, Vice President Shettima urged party members nationwide to rally behind President Tinubu, describing him as a leader with the capacity to steer Nigeria out of its economic and social challenges.
He said the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda had begun yielding visible results across key sectors, adding that the President had demonstrated courage in taking difficult but necessary decisions to stabilise the country.
“We are here, first as Nigerians and secondly as members of the All Progressives Congress, to submit this priceless nomination form of our dear President and leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as he seeks another term in office,” he said.
Shettima added that despite early challenges, the administration’s reforms were aimed at restoring economic stability and laying a stronger foundation for national development.
“The storms of the past years have not diminished him; they have made a fine sailor out of him,” he stated.
He also called on Nigerians to support the President’s re-election bid, stressing the need for collective effort in sustaining national progress.
House of Representatives Speaker backs Tinubu
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, commended President Tinubu’s leadership, describing his decisions as bold and necessary for national recovery.
He said ongoing reforms had placed Nigeria on a path of economic stability and long-term prosperity, adding that they justified continued support for the President’s re-election bid.
APC leadership endorses President
The National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said the President’s performance across key sectors provided strong justification for a second term.
He noted that recent economic indicators and assessments by international bodies reflected progress under the current administration.
Governors pledge support
Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, said the presence of APC governors at the event showed unified support for President Tinubu.
He said the President’s leadership since 2023 had strengthened the party’s influence nationwide and improved cooperation between the federal and state governments.
Uzodinma added that APC governors would mobilise fully for the President’s re-election, stressing the need to consolidate ongoing reforms.
Party stakeholders present
Governors from Plateau, Ogun, Niger, Kaduna, Ondo, Katsina, Borno, Cross River, Taraba, Yobe, Nasarawa and Bayelsa states attended the event, alongside federal lawmakers, APC National Working Committee members, and other party stakeholders.
The gathering marked a major political mobilisation within the APC, formally setting the tone for President Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of 2027.
