Following FG Visit To Ogbomoso Communities, Tinubu Approves 1,000 Forest Guards, Deploys Special Rescue Team, Considers Military Base Request

The Federal Government has intensified security operations and rescue efforts in Oyo State following the abduction of pupils and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School on May 15, 2026.

A high-powered federal delegation on Sunday visited Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State to commiserate with residents and assess the situation on the ground.

The delegation conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s deep concern over the incident and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safe return of all abducted victims.

As part of immediate measures, the President approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State in collaboration with the state government to strengthen surveillance in forest and border communities.

The Federal Government also confirmed the deployment of a specialised security and rescue unit with enhanced operational capacity to intensify efforts toward securing the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.

In addition, the request by community leaders for the establishment of a military base in the affected area will be forwarded to the President for consideration.

The delegation was led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Inspector-General of Police; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare.

Speaking during the visit, Gbajabiamila assured residents that the President is fully committed to resolving the crisis, noting that all necessary security resources have been mobilised.

He explained that the ongoing operation would be intelligence-driven and combine both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.

The delegation also visited the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, to commiserate with the traditional ruler and his people.

They also met with the family of the deceased teacher, Mrs. Mary Oyedokun, where they conveyed President Tinubu’s condolences and assurance of government support for the bereaved family.
