Idris Elba has officially been knighted by King Charles III in recognition of his outstanding charitable contributions, particularly his long-standing work supporting young people and community development initiatives.
The investiture ceremony took place on Tuesday at Windsor Castle, where the Hollywood actor received the honour after being named in the King’s New Year Honours List in December 2025. He is now formally addressed as Sir Idris Elba.
King Charles III presided over the ceremony as part of the United Kingdom’s annual honours tradition, which recognises individuals who have made significant contributions across areas such as the arts, education, sports, humanitarian service, and public life.
This year’s honours list continues to celebrate individuals whose work has had a meaningful impact both within the United Kingdom and internationally.
