Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have successfully foiled an attempted abduction of schoolchildren in Iluke community, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, preventing what could have been a large-scale kidnapping.

According to military authorities, the operation followed credible intelligence from local residents, prompting troops to swiftly mobilise to the area as armed attackers attempted to invade a local school.

On arrival, the soldiers engaged the suspected terrorists in a gunfight, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee into surrounding areas. One attacker was reportedly neutralised during the encounter, while others escaped with injuries.

Security officials confirmed that the prompt response of the troops disrupted the planned abduction and protected the pupils and residents in the community.

The Nigerian Army commended the vigilance of residents and reiterated its commitment to sustained operations aimed at preventing attacks on vulnerable communities, especially schools.

Further security operations are ongoing in the area to track down fleeing suspects and strengthen safety across surrounding communities. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
