Nigerian troops have successfully repelled an ambush by suspected Lakurawa terrorists in Kebbi State, killing five of the attackers and recovering weapons and other materials, military sources have confirmed.

The incident occurred near Mayama Hill in Kebbi State when a military convoy, which included senior officers on an operational tour, came under heavy fire from armed men hiding in a forested area.

According to military statements, the troops responded immediately with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat after a brief gun battle. Five of the assailants were neutralised during the exchange.

Following the encounter, soldiers conducted a clearance operation in the area, leading to the recovery of a cache of weapons and logistics items, including rifles, machine guns, ammunition, motorcycles, and communication equipment believed to have been used by the attackers.

Security officials described the operation as a successful counter-ambush that disrupted the activities of armed groups operating in the North West region.

Troops have since maintained a presence in the area to prevent further attacks and are continuing search operations for fleeing suspects. Authorities say investigations are ongoing as part of wider counter-terrorism efforts in the region. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
