President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) for its ongoing off-grid and mini-grid electricity projects aimed at expanding power access to underserved communities across Nigeria.
He gave the commendation during his Democracy Day remarks, where he noted that reliable electricity remains a key priority of his administration and a key democratic benefit for citizens.
Tinubu highlighted that the REA, working with development partners, has continued to deliver clean and decentralized energy solutions to rural communities, as well as public institutions such as schools, markets, and healthcare facilities.
He also pointed to ongoing reforms in the power sector, including the Electricity Act, which is designed to expand state participation in electricity generation and distribution and improve nationwide access to power.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s electricity challenges through renewable energy expansion and rural electrification programmes aimed at boosting economic activity in underserved areas.
