The Federal Government has announced plans to establish 2,322 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations nationwide by 2027 as part of efforts to expand gas-powered transportation and provide Nigerians with a cheaper alternative to petrol.

The disclosure was made by the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), which stated that significant progress has already been recorded in the expansion of CNG infrastructure across the country. According to the agency, commercial CNG availability has increased from just one state to 24 states within a few years.

The government said the initiative is aimed at reducing transportation costs, encouraging cleaner energy use, and easing the impact of rising fuel prices on Nigerians. Officials also noted that vehicle conversion and refuelling infrastructure are being expanded to support the growing adoption of CNG nationwide.

The development is expected to boost investments in the gas sector, create jobs, and improve access to affordable transportation fuel as Nigeria continues its transition towards alternative energy sources.
