Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has revealed that discussions over a new contract are underway but admits he is unsure whether he will remain at Anfield beyond this season.

The futures of several key players, including Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah, are in question as all three players’ contracts are set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Van Dijk, 33, confirmed that negotiations have begun but stopped short of committing his future to the club. “Discussions are ongoing, but I don’t know what will happen. We’ll see how things unfold,” he said.

“My focus is entirely on Liverpool and winning the games ahead. What the future holds, I have no idea right now. Conversations are happening with the right people, and when a decision is made, I think you [the media] will know about it,” he added.

The Dutch defender also emphasized that he feels good both physically and mentally and remains committed to helping Liverpool succeed this season. “I’m enjoying my time here, but right now my full focus is on Liverpool and achieving success this season.”

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold has also faced questions about his future amid links to Real Madrid. Addressing these rumors, manager Arne Slot dismissed concerns that speculation would distract the players.

“I think people underestimate how strong these players are mentally,” Slot said at a press conference. “They’re used to being linked with top clubs daily, whether they have contracts or not. This is part of the job and the world we live in.”

He added, “Maybe for younger players it could be challenging, but not for players like Trent, Virgil, or Mo. They’ve won the Premier League, the Champions League—this isn’t new for them, and it hasn’t affected their performance. They’re playing really well, and their focus remains on the present.”
