FCT Police Launch Renewed Enforcement on Tinted Vehicles, Impound Over 30 Vehicles

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has cautioned motorists that possession of a tinted glass permit does not automatically exempt drivers from arrest during ongoing enforcement operations in Abuja.

The warning comes amid a renewed crackdown on vehicles with tinted windows, concealed number plates, and other related infractions across the FCT.

According to the Police Command, the enforcement exercise is part of intensified efforts to curb rising cases of violent crimes, including “one-chance” robberies and kidnappings, which authorities say are sometimes facilitated by the use of vehicles with dark or obscured windows.

Commissioner of Police in the FCT, CP Ahmed Sanusi, stated that officers are acting under directives to strictly enforce existing regulations. He noted that while some motorists may have obtained tinted permits, such documentation will not automatically prevent inspection or possible arrest if other violations or security concerns are identified.

He explained that intelligence reports suggest criminal elements often exploit tinted vehicles to conceal identities and evade detection, making stricter enforcement necessary for public safety.

The police also confirmed that more than 30 vehicles have already been impounded in recent operations, with owners expected to face prosecution under relevant traffic and criminal laws.

Authorities urged residents to cooperate with security agencies, remain vigilant, and report suspicious activity as part of broader efforts to enhance safety within the capital.

The enforcement drive continues as uncertainty remains over the legal status and application of tinted glass permits following ongoing policy and court-related developments. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
