The Federal Government has evacuated a second batch of Nigerians from South Africa following renewed concerns over xenophobic attacks and the safety of foreign nationals in parts of the country.
The returnees arrived in Nigeria under arrangements coordinated by relevant government agencies as part of efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of affected citizens.
Officials said the evacuation was undertaken to provide assistance to Nigerians who expressed a desire to return home due to security concerns and fears arising from incidents of violence and hostility towards foreign nationals.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of Nigerians abroad and pledged continued engagement with South African authorities on issues affecting the safety and rights of its citizens.
Authorities also urged Nigerians residing in South Africa to remain law-abiding, stay vigilant, and maintain contact with diplomatic missions for support and guidance when necessary.
The latest evacuation forms part of ongoing efforts by the government to respond to the welfare needs of Nigerians affected by xenophobic tensions in South Africa.
