INEC Access Code Fuels Fresh Battle in PDP Leadership Crisis

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Candidates’ Access Code has emerged as a major flashpoint in the lingering leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The access code, which authorises the upload of candidates’ names to INEC’s nomination portal, was reportedly issued to the faction currently recognised by the electoral body. The move has heightened tensions, with rival factions claiming legitimate control of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The opposing camp has challenged the decision in court, arguing that granting the access code to one faction effectively hands it control over the party’s candidate nomination process.

Political analysts say the access code is crucial because only the recognised leadership can submit candidates to INEC, making it a decisive factor in the party’s internal power struggle.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has urged INEC to publicly clarify its position on the access code and the PDP leadership it officially recognises, stressing the need for transparency as the legal battle continues. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
