The Delta State Police Command has rescued a two-week-old baby boy and arrested two women over alleged child trafficking in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Evelyn Otubo and Esther Joseph, were apprehended following a complaint by the baby’s mother, who alleged that her newborn had been taken from her under the guise of being transferred to an orphanage.
According to the police, the mother raised the alarm after she was repeatedly denied access to her child, prompting an investigation that led to the rescue of the baby and the arrest of the suspects.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were allegedly keeping the infant while waiting to hand him over to a prospective buyer.
The baby has since been reunited with his mother.
The Commissioner of Police said the command remains committed to tackling child trafficking and protecting vulnerable children across the state. He added that efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the suspected trafficking network and ensure they face justice. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
