Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has criticised former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, over comments questioning Peter Obi’s popularity in Northern Nigeria.
Reacting to Sheriff’s recent television interview, Kwankwaso described the remarks as disappointing, arguing that the former governor does not speak on behalf of the people of Northern Nigeria.
He pointed to Peter Obi’s performance in the 2023 presidential election, noting that the former Anambra State governor secured about 2.8 million votes across the region despite contesting the presidency for the first time.
Kwankwaso also rejected Sheriff’s claim that Kano voters would not support Obi, insisting that the people of Kano have consistently demonstrated political maturity and would support any credible candidate presented under the Kwankwasiyya platform.
According to him, the proposed OK ticket remains a strong political force in the North, particularly in light of the current economic and security challenges facing the country.
He urged Sheriff to focus on issues affecting his home state, including insecurity and humanitarian concerns, rather than making what he described as divisive political remarks.
Kwankwaso maintained that the OK ticket represents an opportunity to reposition Nigeria on the path of competence, unity and national progress.
