Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has denied reports that he threatened the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during the endorsement rally for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by the Ebonyi State Government, Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebe, described the allegations as false and a deliberate misrepresentation of remarks made by Governor Nwifuru at the June 15 APC endorsement rally in Abakaliki.

According to the government, the governor’s comments were directed at opposition elements allegedly spreading misinformation and political propaganda in the state, not at Wike.

The government explained that Nwifuru’s use of the word “consume” was a metaphorical expression intended to warn those fomenting unrest that they would face the full weight of the law if they continued such activities. It maintained that the governor never issued any threat against the FCT minister.

Omebe further stated that Nwifuru and Wike enjoy a cordial relationship built on mutual respect, dismissing attempts to create a rift between the two political figures.

He also accused factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of twisting the governor’s remarks for political purposes.

The clarification follows reactions to comments made by Nwifuru during the rally, which some critics interpreted as a threat to Wike and his supporters.
