The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued an abducted staff member of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and recovered hundreds of rustled cattle following a joint operation with military personnel in parts of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the operation was launched after suspected bandits attacked communities in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, rustled hundreds of cattle and abducted an INEC official, Aliyu Mohammed, along the Gummi–Sokoto Road after he completed an official assignment.
According to the police, security operatives tracked the bandits to Gando Forest, where a fierce gun battle ensued.
The bandits were forced to flee with injuries, while the abducted INEC official and another victim were rescued unharmed. The stolen cattle were also recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
In a separate operation in Gusau Local Government Area, joint security forces rescued several kidnapped motorists and farmers after suspected bandits abandoned them while escaping from advancing troops.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining operations against criminal elements across Zamfara State and urged residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing security efforts. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
