Three civilians, including a newly married bride, were killed after suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched coordinated attacks on military positions in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The attacks occurred in the early hours of Friday when the insurgents, riding on motorcycles, attempted to infiltrate military bases in the Kofa and Muna areas.
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle and successfully repelled the assaults, preventing the attackers from overrunning the positions.
Residents said the bride, who had been married for only three weeks, was struck in the head by a stray bullet during the exchange of gunfire and died instantly.
Two other civilians were also reportedly killed by stray bullets, while another resident sustained gunshot injuries.
The military confirmed that all attempted infiltrations were thwarted and said clearance operations are ongoing to ensure the safety of residents. Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
