England captain Harry Kane has expressed his disappointment after the Three Lions’ 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign ended with a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Argentina in the semi-finals.
England appeared to be on course for a place in the final after Anthony Gordon gave them the lead in the 55th minute.
However, Argentina staged a late comeback, with Enzo Fernández equalising in the 85th minute before Lautaro Martínez scored the decisive goal in stoppage time.
Reacting to the defeat, Kane admitted England struggled to maintain their attacking approach after taking the lead and instead focused on protecting their advantage. He said the result was heartbreaking for the players, coaching staff and supporters, adding that the team had given everything throughout the tournament but fell just short.
Head coach Thomas Tuchel also praised his players’ commitment despite the loss, saying they fought until the end but were unable to withstand Argentina’s late pressure.
England will now face France in the third-place playoff, while Argentina will take on Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
