Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has expressed confidence that Benue State is on course to regain its former prominence, assuring residents that renewed efforts are underway to restore the state’s economic and political relevance.

Akume made the remarks while hosting prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from across Benue State, including former political associates of Governor Hyacinth Alia, who pledged their loyalty to his leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The delegation, drawn from the state’s three senatorial districts and led by former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Barrister Emmanuel Jime, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the APC and promoting unity within the party.

Addressing the gathering, Akume stressed the importance of cohesion among party members, saying unity and cooperation remain essential to political stability and the achievement of the aspirations of the people of Benue State.

The former Benue governor assured the delegation that his leadership would continue to prioritise the interests of the state while working to restore its development and political influence.

He also called for continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the Renewed Hope Agenda is designed to deliver sustainable development and improve the lives of Nigerians.

Akume stated that the Federal Government has consistently provided financial support to states and local governments through statutory allocations, adding that development at the state level depends on effective utilisation of available resources.

Reflecting on his tenure as Governor of Benue State between 1999 and 2007, Akume said his administration laid the foundation for the state’s socio-economic development through investments in infrastructure and people-centred programmes.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous endorsement of President Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office and a vote of confidence in Senator Akume’s leadership, as party stakeholders pledged to work together to strengthen the APC and prepare for the 2027 general elections.
