Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okunsanya, has been elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), emerging victorious in the association’s national election to become the new leader of Africa’s largest legal body.

Badejo-Okunsanya defeated fellow Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Lateef Akangbe and Olumuyiwa Akinboro, following an electronic voting process conducted by the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA).

The election attracted significant participation from lawyers across the country despite delays caused by a cyberattack that disrupted the electronic voting platform before voting was extended to allow members to cast their ballots.

With her victory, Badejo-Okunsanya succeeds the outgoing NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), and is expected to lead the association on issues relating to legal practice, judicial reform, the rule of law and the welfare of legal practitioners.

Her election marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian Bar Association as members look forward to a new phase of leadership focused on strengthening the legal profession and advancing justice sector reforms.
