Chelsea are on the verge of completing the signing of England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a record-breaking £117 million transfer.

The 23-year-old is expected to sign a six-year contract with the option of an additional year, while his medical is scheduled for Monday ahead of the official announcement.

The move will make Rogers Chelsea’s most expensive signing, eclipsing the £107 million the club paid Benfica for Enzo Fernández. It is also set to become the biggest transfer involving a British player, surpassing Elliot Anderson’s reported £116 million move to Manchester City.

New Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has been tasked with rebuilding the squad following the club’s disappointing 10th-place finish in the 2025/26 Premier League season their lowest league position since the 2015/16 campaign.

Chelsea have already strengthened their squad with the arrivals of Marco Palestra and Geovany Quenda, while Emmanuel Emegha has returned to Stamford Bridge after a spell at Strasbourg. However, Rogers is expected to be the club’s marquee signing of the summer transfer window.

Currently representing England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Rogers played a key role in Aston Villa’s UEFA Europa League triumph last season. During his time at Villa Park, he scored 31 goals and provided 29 assists in 125 appearances, establishing himself as one of England’s standout midfielders. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
