The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to easing the economic burden on Nigerians, particularly in light of the removal of fuel subsidies. Speaking on Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria’s (FRCN) Hausa program, Hannu Da Yawa, Idris argued that subsidies primarily benefited a select few, while Tinubu’s economic policies aim to support the broader public.

Idris noted that the Tinubu administration is actively pursuing economic stability and has instructed ministers to reduce government spending by limiting official vehicles and staff on assignments. “President Tinubu is pointing out the need to change from the old ways of doing things in Nigeria,” he said, adding that such cost-saving measures, although modest, are anticipated to have a meaningful impact.

He also highlighted the recent renaming of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, signaling Tinubu’s dedication to addressing agricultural challenges to bolster food security.

On security, Idris reassured that the government continues to invest in resources for security agencies and improve personnel welfare. He added that consultations on establishing state police are ongoing, aimed at strengthening regional safety.

Addressing recent power outages in northern Nigeria, Idris described these disruptions as unintentional and assured citizens that efforts to stabilize the national grid and complete the AKK Gas Pipeline Project are underway, which will help revive industries in the region.

Idris also urged Nigerians to use social media responsibly, stressing that a positive national image is a shared responsibility.
