The 2025 GRAMMY Awards season has officially kicked off, with the highly anticipated nomination ceremony taking place today, Friday, November 8, 2024. Music fans and industry insiders alike are tuning in via live.GRAMMY.com to see which artists will vie for the most prestigious honors in music, marking the culmination of months of voting and preparation by the Recording Academy.
This year, the Recording Academy introduced significant updates to award categories to reflect the evolving music industry and broaden inclusivity. Key changes include the debut of the “Best Dance Pop Recording” category, replacing the former Best Pop Dance Recording, and repositioning the “Best Remixed Recording” category within the Pop & Dance/Electronic Field. These adjustments aim to “enhance the integrity and inclusivity of the GRAMMY Awards,” as stated by Academy officials, and “support the evolving music landscape” to “empower creators,” according to Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr.
In addition to category updates, the Academy revised eligibility criteria, particularly for the Songwriter of the Year category. Now, songwriters can qualify with fewer songs, a move intended to “welcome more voices” into the competition and celebrate a wider range of talent within the field.
Today’s nominations set the stage for the 67th GRAMMY Awards, scheduled for Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. This event, known as “Music’s Biggest Night,” will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
The journey to the 2025 GRAMMYs began with the product eligibility period from September 16, 2023, to August 30, 2024, followed by the entry and voting phases. The Academy’s commitment to “recognizing excellence in the recording arts and sciences” continues with this year’s updated awards process, which blends “innovation and tradition” to honor the best in music.
As the final voting round approaches in December, the music world awaits the official winners of the 2025 GRAMMYs, setting up what promises to be an iconic night in music history.
