Nigeria’s U-16 3×3 Girls’ Basketball Team Wins Gold in Senegal

The Nigerian U-16 female 3×3 basketball team clinched the gold medal at the Dakar En Jeux 2024 Festival in Dakar, Senegal, on Sunday. The victory came after the team had previously secured a silver medal at the African Games in Accra, Ghana. In the final, Nigeria defeated the host nation, Senegal, 11-8 to claim the top spot.

Victor Okoro, Nigeria’s head of delegation and team coordinator, expressed his pride in the team’s outstanding performance. “I’m very proud of this team. I am also happy that once again, they have made Nigeria proud on the international stage,” Okoro said after the final.

A board member of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Okoro emphasized that the team’s recent success highlights the tireless efforts of the Musa Kida-led NBBF in promoting basketball in Nigeria.

The Dakar En Jeux Festival, a major event in Senegal, combines sports, music, and cultural activities. According to the festival’s official website, this year’s edition (7-10 November 2024) is particularly special for Senegal as it comes just under two years before the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games
