A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced Muhammad Sani to 20 years’ imprisonment for conspiring to conceal information about a suspected bandit, in violation of Nigeria’s terrorism laws.

The court found Sani guilty after the prosecution established beyond reasonable doubt that he knowingly withheld information that could have assisted security agencies in tracking the suspect. The offence was prosecuted under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act.

In delivering judgment, the trial judge held that concealing or shielding individuals involved in banditry poses a serious threat to national security and attracts severe punishment under the law. Consequently, the court sentenced the convict to 20 years in prison.

The conviction is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the fight against terrorism and banditry by prosecuting not only perpetrators of violent crimes but also individuals who aid, harbour, or conceal them from security agencies. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
