Former President Goodluck Jonathan has reportedly picked the presidential nomination form of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general election, signalling a potential return to active presidential politics.

According to reports, Jonathan is expected to be screened by a faction of the PDP as the party’s sole presidential aspirant for the 2027 election. A 14-member screening committee comprising senior party figures, including former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, and former Foreign Affairs Minister Tom Ikimi, has reportedly been constituted for the exercise.

The development follows weeks of speculation over Jonathan’s political future, with several support groups and stakeholders within the PDP urging him to contest the presidency again. Earlier reports indicated that groups loyal to the former president were already mobilising to obtain the PDP nomination form on his behalf.

Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, has not yet officially declared his candidacy publicly. However, the latest development is expected to reshape political calculations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
