The Federal Government has adopted a stronger diplomatic position in response to renewed xenophobic attacks and anti-immigrant protests targeting Nigerians and other foreign nationals in South Africa.

Nigerian authorities have condemned the attacks and expressed concern over reports of violence against Nigerian citizens, reaffirming their commitment to protecting Nigerians living abroad.

As part of its response, the Federal Government has continued the evacuation of willing Nigerians from South Africa, with hundreds of citizens already repatriated amid growing concerns over their safety.

The government has also indicated its intention to pursue compensation for Nigerians who suffered losses as a result of the unrest, including those forced to abandon businesses and properties.

Officials said efforts are ongoing to document the experiences and losses of affected Nigerians while diplomatic engagements continue with South African authorities to ensure the protection of lives and property.

The Federal Government reiterated that the welfare, dignity, and security of Nigerians abroad remain a key priority, stressing that it will continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard its citizens wherever they reside.
