Grief engulfed Kulodo community in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State as residents laid to rest the village head, his eldest son, and four other victims killed in a recent bandit attack.
The victims were buried in accordance with Islamic rites amid emotional scenes, with family members, community leaders, and mourners paying their final respects.
According to residents, suspected bandits invaded Kulodo and the neighbouring Kwamtsi village, firing indiscriminately before moving from house to house. The attackers reportedly killed six people, including the village head and his son, while looting shops, homes, and rustling more than 200 livestock.
Witnesses said many of the victims were shot while attempting to flee or while hiding inside their homes. The village head and his eldest son were reportedly killed at the entrance of their residence as they tried to escape the attack.
Residents described the late traditional ruler as a respected leader who devoted his life to the welfare of his people. They also appealed to the government and security agencies to strengthen security in the area, citing repeated attacks that have forced many villagers to flee their homes.
The latest assault adds to growing concerns over persistent insecurity in parts of Sokoto State, where armed groups continue to target rural communities despite ongoing security operations. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
