President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who reportedly died while in the custody of terrorists in Katsina State.

The President described the incident as tragic, noting that the senior military officer, who had a distinguished career before retiring a few years ago, was abducted while travelling to his hometown. His wife was also said to have been taken hostage by the abductors and remains in captivity.

According to the Presidency, President Tinubu extended condolences to the bereaved family, the government of Katsina State, and the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing the loss as painful and unacceptable.

Reiterating the Federal Government’s position on terrorism and banditry, Tinubu warned that the state would not succumb to any demands for the release of arrested suspects in exchange for hostages, stressing that criminal groups would continue to face decisive military action.

He also restated his earlier warning that bandits, kidnappers, and their sponsors must either surrender or face intensified operations by security forces, insisting that there would be no concessions to those responsible for violence against citizens.

The President said the incident should serve as a renewed resolve in the fight against terrorism and insurgency across the country.
