Following his official confirmation as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi has announced former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as his running mate for the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the announcement shortly after emerging as the party’s flagbearer at the NDC presidential convention, where he received the party’s endorsement to contest the presidency.
The Obi-Kwankwaso ticket brings together two prominent opposition figures with significant political influence across different regions of the country. Political analysts believe the alliance could alter the dynamics of the 2027 presidential race as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the election.
Both leaders recently aligned with the NDC after parting ways with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal disagreements and legal challenges within their former political platform.
The NDC leadership expressed confidence in the ticket, describing it as a strategic partnership capable of mobilising broad national support and strengthening the party’s prospects in the 2027 presidential election.
