Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has tragically lost his mother, just months after announcing the death of his father.
Nwabali shared the heartbreaking news of his mother’s passing on X Wednesday evening, writing, “Rip mom,” and describing this as “the worst year of my life already.” He had previously posted, “A very very crazy world indeed.”
The 28-year-old goalkeeper did not provide further details about the cause of his mother’s death.
Earlier in November, Nwabali had lost his father, Godspower Onyekam Abali, Chief Onyeogazrim 1 of Okwuzi, just hours before the Super Eagles’ match against Rwanda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. As a result, he was excused from the game but still attended to support his teammates. Super Eagles’ Team Administrator Dayo Enebi Achor confirmed the decision at the time.
Nwabali’s father was 67 years old at the time of his passing.
The South Africa-based goalkeeper gained significant attention early last year for his standout performances with the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he played in all the matches as Nigeria reached the final, ultimately losing to host nation Cote d’Ivoire.
