The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to securing the freedom of all Nigerians held in captivity, assuring citizens that every necessary effort is being made to ensure their safe return.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), led by its National Amirah, Dr. Sumaye Fadimatu Hamza.

Akume said the protection of lives and property remains a top priority of the Tinubu administration, expressing confidence that ongoing security operations and coordinated interventions would continue to yield positive results in the fight against kidnapping and other criminal activities.

According to him, the government is committed to preserving lives and ensuring the safe release of all citizens currently in captivity.

The SGF also highlighted the important role of faith-based organisations in promoting peace, unity, and national development, urging religious groups to continue supporting the nation through prayers and community engagement.

He commended FOMWAN for its contributions to education, humanitarian services, women empowerment, and social development, describing the association as a valuable partner in advancing national progress.

Akume noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda places significant emphasis on women’s empowerment and community development, adding that the Federal Government values the contributions of faith-based organisations in addressing insecurity and promoting social cohesion.

Earlier, FOMWAN National Amirah, Dr. Sumaye Fadimatu Hamza, praised the Federal Government’s efforts in areas such as security, education, humanitarian response, social protection, and women’s development.

She called for further strengthening of the nation’s security architecture through improved intelligence gathering, enhanced community engagement, and greater protection of vulnerable communities.

Hamza also sought stronger collaboration between the Federal Government and FOMWAN in areas including women’s empowerment, youth development, education, humanitarian response, peacebuilding, and community development.

She emphasized that the association’s extensive grassroots network could help complement government efforts in delivering sustainable development and improving the welfare of Nigerians across the country.
