INEC Awaits Certified Court Judgment Before Taking Position on NDC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will review the recent Federal High Court judgment concerning the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after obtaining the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling.

The commission stated that although it is aware of reports regarding the judgment delivered by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, it has not yet received the official court documents needed to fully assess the decision.

INEC explained that its legal department will carefully study the judgment once the CTC is received and subsequently advise the commission on the appropriate course of action in line with the court’s directives.

The judgment reportedly set aside an earlier court order that had directed INEC to register the NDC as a political party, creating fresh legal questions about the party’s status.

According to the electoral body, no official position will be taken until the judgment has been thoroughly reviewed. INEC urged the public to await its formal response after the legal assessment is completed.

The development adds a new dimension to the ongoing legal and political discussions surrounding the registration of political parties ahead of future elections.
