In a continuation of a long-standing diplomatic tradition, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, is set to visit Nigeria and three other African countries from January 5 to January 11, 2025.
The announcement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Friday. The countries to be visited include Namibia, the Republic of the Congo, Chad, and Nigeria, with each stop planned at the invitation of the respective governments.
This marks the 35th consecutive year that China’s foreign minister has made Africa the destination of their first overseas trip of the year. The tradition underscores the importance of Sino-African relations and China’s commitment to strengthening its partnerships across the continent.
During the visits, Wang Yi is expected to engage in high-level discussions aimed at deepening cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, technology, and development. The tour is also likely to highlight China’s Belt and Road Initiative and other projects aimed at fostering mutual growth and understanding.
This diplomatic engagement reaffirms Africa’s strategic role in China’s foreign policy and sets the tone for continued collaboration in 2025 and beyond.
