The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun has mourned the passing of Adewunmi Onanuga, deputy chief whip of the house of representatives.

Onanuga, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo north federal constituency in Ogun state, died on Wednesday aged 59, after a brief illness.

In a statement issued by Tunde Oladunjoye, its publicity secretary, the APC described Onanuga as a beacon of hope, stating that her demise is a “rude shock too heavy for the party to bear”.

“Our party commiserates with the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the leadership of the leadership of the party, family and associates of late Onanuga, who remained a staunch and vibrant party loyalist till death,” the statement reads.

“The death of the ebullient politician came as a rude shock that is too heavy for our party to bear.

“While alive, ‘Ijaya’ as she was fondly called, exuded humility, loyalty and responsibility to the party and her constituents.

“She was a commendable and recommendable politician that served as a beacon of hope not only to female party members but also to the entirety of the party.

“She was a good ambassador who represented not only her federal constituency, but indeed, Ogun State as a whole, while she served as the Deputy Chief Whip at the House of Representatives.

“We pray that God will grant her family and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

In his condolence message, Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, described the passing of the lawmaker as devastating, noting that her death is a monumental loss to the state and country.

The governor prayed for the repose of her soul and for strength for the family she left behind to bear the loss.
