
Nigeria and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence and security cooperation, following high-level talks held in Abuja under the Fourth UK–Nigeria Security and Defence Partnership (SDP4) Dialogue.
The dialogue was co-chaired by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and the United Kingdom’s National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell, bringing together senior officials from both countries to discuss shared security priorities and emerging threats.
Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, military training, cybersecurity, capacity building, and regional security. Both nations emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration in addressing complex security challenges affecting Nigeria, West Africa, and the broader international community.
Speaking during the engagement, officials highlighted the need for sustained partnerships to combat terrorism, transnational crime, cyber threats, and other evolving security risks. They also reaffirmed their commitment to improving operational cooperation and strengthening institutional frameworks that support peace and stability.
The meeting further reviewed existing areas of collaboration and explored opportunities to expand technical assistance, defence cooperation, and strategic engagement between the two countries.
The United Kingdom and Nigeria have maintained a longstanding security partnership, with cooperation spanning military training, intelligence support, maritime security, and counter-terrorism initiatives. The latest dialogue is expected to deepen these efforts and provide a framework for enhanced collaboration in the years ahead.
