The Federal Government has elevated 15 senior officers to the rank of Deputy Comptrollers General (DCGs), including Deputy Controllers General and Deputy Commandants General, across the Ministry of Interior’s four paramilitary services. The promotion, announced by Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on Wednesday in Abuja, marks a significant shift towards merit-based advancement, moving away from godfatherism and nepotism.
Among the 79 senior officers promoted recently, the 15 new DCGs represent various agencies: the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) with seven promotions, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) with four, the Federal Fire Service (FFS) with one, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) with three.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized that this promotion initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to timely and merit-based promotions, addressing past backlogs and ensuring that the 2024 promotion cycle will be concluded by September’s end.
