A special investigator appointed to probe activities at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Jim Obaze, has reportedly called for the prosecution of former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, over the alleged $6.2 million fraud linked to the apex bank.
The development is connected to the ongoing investigation and court proceedings surrounding the controversial withdrawal of $6.23 million allegedly earmarked for foreign election observer missions ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The case has continued to attract public attention amid allegations that documents used to authorise the withdrawal contained forged signatures and unauthorised approvals.
Court proceedings involving former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele have also featured testimonies relating to the disputed funds and the circumstances surrounding the transaction.
Investigations and court hearings on the matter remain ongoing as authorities seek to establish responsibility for the withdrawal and determine whether additional prosecutions will follow.
