President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Alhaji Ganiyu Kolapo Oseni, describing him as a visionary administrator, elder statesman, progressive politician, and one of the champions of Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
In a condolence message following Oseni’s passing, the President expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting that the deceased played a significant role in shaping both his political journey and the development of Lagos State.
Tinubu recalled Oseni’s contributions as the Organising Secretary of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in Lagos during the Second Republic, highlighting his role in laying the foundation for key institutions, including the Lagos State Printing Corporation.
The President described the late Oseni as a trusted ally, friend, brother, and political mentor who introduced him to politics and supported his emergence as Senator representing Lagos West and later Governor of Lagos State.
According to Tinubu, Oseni was a committed advocate of democracy and good governance who actively participated in the struggle to restore democratic rule in Nigeria and defend the mandate of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
He noted that the late statesman remained supportive of his political aspirations over the years, including his presidential ambition, and shared ideas and reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria.
The President praised Oseni’s dedication to public service and national development, describing him as an “Iroko” whose contributions and sacrifices would not be forgotten.
Tinubu extended condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for strength and comfort for his loved ones, while asking Almighty Allah to grant him eternal rest in Aljanna.
