Elon Musk announced that his AI startup, xAI, will launch its Grok 3 chatbot on Monday, describing it as the “smartest AI on Earth” in an increasingly competitive market.

The flagship AI model will be unveiled with a live demonstration at 8:00 pm Pacific Time (0400 GMT), Musk wrote on his social media platform, X, on Saturday. Grok 3, trained on synthetic data, is designed to reflect on its own errors by analyzing data for logical consistency.

“Will be honing product with the team all weekend, so offline until then,” Musk added.

Musk, the world’s richest person, previously said Grok 3 was in its final development stage and would be released within weeks. The launch comes as xAI seeks to carve out a space in the AI market, competing with industry giants like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The AI landscape has seen growing competition, particularly after Chinese startup DeepSeek disrupted the market last month with its low-cost, high-quality chatbot, which quickly surpassed ChatGPT in Apple App Store downloads. Despite frequently warning about the dangers of AI, Musk continues to push for dominance in the sector.

xAI has attracted major investors, raising $6 billion in December from US venture capitalists, chipmakers Nvidia and AMD, and sovereign wealth funds from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Combined with an earlier $6 billion round in May, the company has become one of the most valuable AI startups, though it remains smaller than OpenAI.

Musk founded xAI in July 2023, shortly after signing an open letter calling for a pause in the development of advanced AI models. Meanwhile, OpenAI’s board recently rejected a Musk-led offer to acquire the company for $97.4 billion.
