The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results. The announcement was made during a press briefing in Abuja, where JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed that over 1.9 million candidates participated in the examination, which was conducted across the country.
In a key development, Oloyede revealed that the board has withheld the results of 39,834 candidates due to alleged examination malpractices. These candidates will not receive their results until the ongoing investigations are concluded. As part of the ongoing probe, Oloyede confirmed that 80 individuals are currently under investigation for involvement in various forms of examination fraud. Notably, Anambra State recorded the highest number of suspects, with 14 individuals being interrogated.
In addition to the malpractices, Oloyede also pointed out that 467 underage candidates managed to score above the minimum cut-off mark. These candidates will have their results closely reviewed to determine their eligibility. Furthermore, 50 candidates have been linked to cheating during the examination.
Record-Setting Examination Process
The 2025 UTME was administered to a total of 2,030,862 candidates, and conducted across 882 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres. Each centre was monitored by at least 10 invigilators, ensuring rigorous oversight during the examination process. Over 10,000 officials were involved in the organization and monitoring of the exam. Prof. Oloyede described this year’s UTME as “the most successful in recent times.”
Out of the registered candidates, 1,957,000 were successfully verified to sit for the examination, while 71,705 were absent. There were 2,157 candidates whose fingerprints were rejected by the biometric verification machines, indicating potential issues with their registration process. These candidates’ cases will be reviewed on an individual basis, as several of them had registration discrepancies that need to be addressed.
Among the 41,027 underage candidates who were registered for the UTME, 40,260 sat for the examination. Their results are currently isolated for further testing to identify exceptional cases, if any.
