The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has indicated that the proposed new uniforms for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will be produced in Nigeria as part of efforts to support local industries and promote indigenous manufacturing.

Speaking on the planned redesign of the NYSC uniform, the minister said the materials would be sourced locally, highlighting fabrics such as Ankara and Adire, which are produced in different parts of the country.

According to Olawande, Nigeria has the capacity to manufacture the uniforms through its textile and fabric industries, including producers in states such as Ogun and Kwara.

He noted that local production would not only strengthen the domestic economy but also create opportunities for Nigerian businesses and manufacturers.

The minister emphasized the need to retain economic value within the country, stating that government policies should support local industries and encourage the patronage of made-in-Nigeria products.

The proposed uniform redesign forms part of the broader reforms approved for the NYSC scheme, which are aimed at modernising the programme and enhancing its relevance to national development.
