The Nigerian military’s Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) forces have successfully neutralized three suspected bandits during an operation in Wase Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State. The operation, which took place on Sunday, followed an intelligence tip-off that led the troops to a criminal hideout in the Pinau community, located along the Pinau-Gimbi road.

According to Maj. Samson Zhakom, the media officer for OPSH, the troops launched an offensive operation on the hideout after receiving credible intelligence. The ensuing confrontation saw the troops overpowering the criminals with superior firepower, resulting in the death of three suspected bandits. While others managed to flee the scene with gunshot wounds, the military was able to recover an AK-47 rifle and an AK-47 magazine during the operation.

“The operation was carried out based on accurate intelligence, which led to a successful strike against the criminals who had been terrorizing the area. Our troops maintained focus, and despite the criminals fleeing, we continue to pursue them,” said Zhakom in a statement.

The forces have since initiated a follow-up operation aimed at intercepting the remaining suspects who fled the scene. The authorities are hopeful that this continued action will curb the rising security challenges in the region.

This successful operation is part of ongoing efforts by OPSH to combat banditry and other forms of criminal activity in Plateau State, where insecurity has remained a significant concern.
