Court Nullifies NDC Registration

A Federal High Court has reportedly nullified the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party, following a legal challenge over the process that led to its recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The case was instituted by a member of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), who argued that the NDC did not comply with constitutional, statutory, and regulatory requirements governing the registration of political parties in Nigeria.

The plaintiff contended that the party was not among the associations initially prequalified by INEC for registration and sought the cancellation of its certificate of registration.

In its ruling, the court reportedly held that the registration process was flawed and ordered the nullification of the NDC’s registration.

The development marks a significant setback for the party, which has emerged as a platform for several opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The judgment is expected to generate fresh legal and political debates, with stakeholders likely to explore further legal options regarding the party’s status and participation in future electoral activities.
