A Magistrate Court in Bolade Oshodi has ordered the remand of 34 suspects in prison custody until July 22, 2025, for their involvement in street trading and illegal occupation of the median along the Alaba Rago area on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The group—comprising 32 men and 2 women—was arrested over the weekend during a joint enforcement operation by officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA). The exercise aimed to reclaim the road median at Alaba Rago, Ojo, which had been overtaken by traders who erected illegal makeshift structures.

According to authorities, some of the suspects are suspected miscreants who had turned the median into a base for criminal activities, using temporary sheds for shelter and concealment.

“The present administration remains committed to enforcing environmental and public order laws across the state,” said the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, while commenting on the incident.

“We urge all residents to uphold the minimum standard of decency and support efforts towards a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos.”

The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to restore order and safety along major highways, particularly in high-traffic areas like Lagos-Badagry Expressway, where illegal trading activities pose both security and environmental threats.
