Human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2027 general election.

Sowore was unanimously adopted as the party’s consensus candidate during its presidential primary held on Tuesday in Abuja, where party leaders and delegates endorsed him ahead of the upcoming polls.

Party officials said the decision reflected confidence in his leadership, commitment to democratic ideals, and his long-standing advocacy for political reform in Nigeria.

Speaking after his emergence, Sowore described the AAC as a platform committed to challenging poor governance and entrenched political structures, while reaffirming the party’s focus on justice, accountability, and democratic participation.

The primary exercise also featured a leadership transition within the party, as Sowore stepped down as National Chairman following his nomination, paving the way for a new party leadership structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party leaders added that the development is part of efforts to strengthen internal structures and maintain unity as the party prepares for the upcoming polls.
