President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has provided a clear response to those questioning the utilization of funds saved from the removal of petrol subsidy. According to the Federal Government, the money previously spent on subsidising fuel is now being redirected towards critical infrastructure projects and the development of human capital across the country.

Since President Tinubu famously declared “fuel subsidy is gone” during his May 29, 2023 inauguration speech, accruals into the federation account have more than doubled. This surge in revenue has provided the government with greater fiscal space to invest in essential sectors that directly impact the lives of Nigerians.

The administration has continued to emphasize that the decision to remove the petrol subsidy was not just an economic policy but a strategic move to free up resources for national development.
