President Tinubu Explains How Fuel Subsidy Savings Are Powering Infrastructure and Human Capital Development

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has provided a clear response to those questioning the utilization of funds saved from the removal of petrol subsidy. According to the Federal Government, the money previously spent on subsidising fuel is now being redirected towards critical infrastructure projects and the development of human capital across the country.

Since President Tinubu famously declared “fuel subsidy is gone” during his May 29, 2023 inauguration speech, accruals into the federation account have more than doubled. This surge in revenue has provided the government with greater fiscal space to invest in essential sectors that directly impact the lives of Nigerians.

The administration has continued to emphasize that the decision to remove the petrol subsidy was not just an economic policy but a strategic move to free up resources for national development. With these funds, the government is expanding road networks, improving energy access, modernizing education infrastructure, and rolling out social investment programmes targeted at the most vulnerable.

Through transparent allocation and responsible fiscal management, the Tinubu administration is ensuring that every naira saved from subsidy removal contributes meaningfully to building a stronger, more self-reliant Nigeria.
