In a major step toward actualizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for energy security and industrial growth, the Akwa Ibom State Government, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria (GACN) have signed a $3.5 billion gas deal aimed at accelerating domestic gas development in Nigeria. The signing ceremony took place during the South South Gas Utilization Forum, currently ongoing at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, represented by his Deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, led the state’s delegation. He described the agreement as “a strategic leap toward energy led prosperity,” aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to harness Nigeria’s vast natural gas resources for national development. The Minister of State for Gas Resources, Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, and NNPC’s Executive Vice President for Gas, Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, were also present at the event.

This $3.5 billion agreement is expected to drive investments in gas infrastructure, improve energy access and foster industrialization across the South South region and beyond. It marks a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria as a gas powered economy and create long term economic opportunities for its citizens.
