A major exhibition celebrating the changing fashions of the late Queen Elizabeth II is set to open next year at Buckingham Palace, marking what would have been her 100th birthday. Titled Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style, the showcase will feature around 200 items of clothing, jewellery, hats, and shoes — making it the most extensive display of the Queen’s wardrobe to date.

Opening next spring at the King’s Gallery, the exhibition will chronicle the late monarch’s life through the garments she wore for public duties and private moments, with pieces spanning from her childhood to her decades-long reign. Highlights include her iconic 1947 wedding dress designed by Sir Norman Hartnell and an eight-year-old Princess Elizabeth’s silver lamé bridesmaid gown from 1934.

Curated by the Royal Collection Trust, the exhibition will also explore how the Queen’s fashion often carried diplomatic significance — such as a green and white gown worn in Pakistan in 1961, reflecting the country’s national colours. More casual items like tartan skirts, headscarves, and riding jackets will offer a glimpse into her personal style.

“In the year that she would have turned 100, this exhibition will be a celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s uniquely British style and her enduring fashion legacy,” said curator Caroline de Guitaut, noting the showcase will reflect a lifetime of thoughtful style and exceptional craftsmanship.
