President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to inaugurate three advanced cancer centres located at the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Nsukka, and University of Benin Teaching Hospital. These projects form part of a broader oncology infrastructure initiative under the Renewed Hope Agenda, spearheaded in partnership with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, confirmed that the centres will serve over 2,000 cancer patients and provide diagnostic services for up to 350,000 clients annually. Equipped with modern radiotherapy and diagnostic tools, the centres mark a major leap forward in Nigeria’s capacity to combat cancer.
The commissioning follows President Tinubu’s 2024 approval for a nationwide oncology expansion in six federal teaching hospitals. Additional centres are expected in Jos, Zaria, and Lagos. These interventions aim to improve access to affordable cancer treatment and position Nigeria as a regional hub for oncology care.
This effort reflects President Tinubu’s strong commitment to delivering quality healthcare and expanding critical infrastructure for Nigerians across the country.
