Roland Garros semi-finalist Lois Boisson has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming WTA 1000 event in Montreal, citing a left adductor muscle injury. The French rising star joins a growing list of high-profile absentees from the Canadian Open.

Boisson, currently ranked No. 44 in the world, shared the news on social media Tuesday, revealing that medical scans confirmed she needed more time to fully recover.

“I had an echography this morning following the pain I experienced in my left adductor during the Hamburg tournament, and it shows I need a bit more time to rest and heal properly,” she wrote.

“I’m very disappointed to miss @obnmontreal… It wasn’t an easy decision, but my health always comes first.”

The injury comes just days after the 22-year-old captured her first WTA title on the clay courts of Hamburg, a breakthrough that capped off a remarkable run following her semi-final appearance at Roland Garros last month. Ranked outside the top 350 before the French Open, Boisson stunned the tennis world by defeating top 10 players Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva en route to the final four.

Her absence is a blow to the Montreal event, which is already reeling from the withdrawals of Aryna Sabalenka and Zheng Qinwen on the women’s side. On the men’s side in Toronto, stars including Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic have also pulled out.

The Canadian Open, which runs from July 27 to August 7, serves as a key warm-up tournament ahead of the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year.
